Frequently Asked Questions Page
The following are frequently asked questions that NEIL often encounters as a one of a kind organization. The board offers the below FAQ out of transparency and respect for curious members of the community. If you need more information about a topic, please contact us via the email icon at the top of the page.
Q: What is NEIL?
A: NEIL is a group of likeminded adults who are passionate about both leather and improving their local community through Education, Philanthropy, Social, and Volunteer activities.
Q: What do you do?
A: NEIL hosts opportunities for members of the leather community to come together to improve their shared community through volunteer, social, and philanthropic events.
Q: Where can I find you?
A: NEIL’s board leads productive lives outside of running the organization, and thus does not have brick & mortar office hours. NEIL members typically attend the Leather & Fetish nights in the Bear’s Den of After Dark Lounge, and of course our public events.
Q: How long have you been around?
A: NEIL began as an idea in the Fall of 2018, and our first public event was Fort Wayne Pride in 2019.
Q: What have you done?
A: Our events page has more details, but some highlights from a busy few years:
NEIL’s first Fort Wayne Pride boasted a booth, and a fundraiser boat cruise after.
NEIL has held several fundraisers for the Positive Resource Connection, including two tables at the 2019 Dinner Dance, auction items at the 2020 Virtual Dinner Dance, and more planned events in the future.
NEIL has hosted a Porch to Pantry drive of non-perishables for Forward Indiana in 2021 with plans to do so quarterly.
Q: What’s the deal with these Accords?
A: The Founders wanted fundamental building blocks that would help grow a strong, respected organization within the community and give guidance to its membership on expected behavior.
Q: What’s with the Logo?
A: The NEIL logo was designed by the Founders, and represents both the organization’s composition, and each of them in turn.
Q: Do you sell leather?
A: NEIL may host a pop-up shop opportunity for vendors during events or for special occasions, but is not a leather store.
Q: Is NEIL an “Adult” club?
A: No. While NEIL champions communication, education, and consent, we are not an “adult” club. Any event in which personal topics are discussed will be in an educational and informative matter.
Q: How do you join?
A: Our membership application is available upon request. A request for an application can be submitted through the email icon above.
Q: Do you have to own Leather to join?
A: Absolutely not! NEIL welcomes people who are passionate about leather no matter the stage - from seasoned super fans to beginning curiosities. NEIL is here to offer guidance, information, and support to the leather & fetish community of Northeast Indiana.
Q: Do you have to be the stereotypical fit, gay, male to join?
A: Absolutely not! NEIL is open to all and demands that all be treated with respect. Diversity only makes NEIL stronger.
Q: What does it cost to join?
A: Currently, there is an application fee of $25 that will cover the cost of the 10” patch upon completion of the probationary membership period. Additionally, annual dues are expected, determined by the board annually, and used for operational costs that include location, refreshments, and any talent for educational activities for events.
Q: How can I ask NEIL to participate in an event or project?
A: Simply send a message via the email icon above, or through Facebook & Instagram. NEIL typically replies within 24 hrs, and will at least let you know the board has received your request and place it under consideration.
Q: Do I have to be a member to donate?
A: Of course not! Our donate button on facebook is the best place to submit donations in kind. We appreciate the thought and hope that we are able to continue our efforts with your help.
Q: Do you accept Gifts in Kind?
A: Yes, with some exceptions. There will be opportunities for these as part of our auction items for other organizations, and we are happy to accept. Please understand that if the item does not fit the current needs of the org, it may be denied.
